Steel wire comes out of the furnace and becomes full austenitic. If cooling speed is too fast, it generally can get hard martensite without drawing. After adding Aqua Quench 110 into the water, AQ110 can increase the viscosity of water, improve vaporization temperature of water, lower thermal conductivity and form a layer of steam film on the steel wire surface. Steel wire and water can’t contact with each other directly, steel wire and water make heat exchange in water through steam film to achieve steel wire slow cooling. Steel wire can’t contact with water at any time (see picture) before not completing exchange, steel wire must be surrounded by steam film. If the exchange is not finished, steel wire contacts with water and form martensite.

AQ quenching is generally divided into 3 processes:

(1)Steel wire is cooled to about 650℃ in the first water tank (WT1), and leaves the first water tank before steam film

(2)Steel wire is cooled to about 620℃ in the air, it happens that austenite changes into pearlite/ sorbite.

(3)Because this change is a exothermic process, in order to prevent steel wire temperature from rising highly, and then affect the mechanical property of copper plating steel wire. Steel wire will be leaded to second water tank (WT2) for cooling. Steel wire leaves water tank 2 before steam film ruptures. The transformation that austenite changes into pearlite/ sorbite has been basically completed but not fully, the rest of transformation is completed in air.
